I get involved in all types of interesting adventures in this job. Friday, I was downtown watching Gee Your Band Smells Terrific as part of First Friday and Takin’ it to the Streets. If you didn’t drive down and check things out, you missed a really fun night.
Saturday I attended the kick off of the 50th Anniversary of Miami University Middletown. They will be celebrating their 50 years in the City all year, so look for special events throughout the school year.
Monday brought the Mayor and me to the airport to witness the beginning of a Guinness World Record attempt. Start Skydiving is one of the sponsors of the attempt for the longest journey on a Pocketbike. The attempt is being done to raise awareness and funds for Homes for Our Troops, which provided homes for disabled and homeless veterans.

The record breaking journey will be 1,554 miles from Middletown Regional Airport to the Golden Aspen Motorcycle Rally in Mescalero, New Mexico. The three riders attempting the record are Mike Reid, Sigriour Yr, and Chris Fabre with Crew Chief Aurelio Rodriguez.
The bikes are tiny and uncomfortable, lol. They only go about 30 mph, had to be modified to be street legal, and the riders are attempting to ride 10-12 hours per day for 10 days straight. I’m pretty sure I couldn’t handle the punishment and be walking at the end of the attempt.
We wish them the best in their attempt and hope they have safe travels.
