As you are aware, I’ve tried to build a local government that is transparent in its operation. We’ve put our finances online and we use this blog and other media to keep the public involved and aware of what we are doing, why we are doing it, and the cost of operating.
In many cases, we are building on the work done by previous administrations. The city has once again received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association for the City budget. This is the 22nd year in a row that the city has been bestowed this honor. As stated in the Press Release:
In order to receive the budget award, the entity had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as:
- A policy document
- A financial plan
- An operations guide
- A communications device
Budget documents must be rated ‘proficient’ in all four categories, and the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.
