About a month ago, I discussed the potential conversion of the closed Tytus Avenue Fire Station to a post-recovery center for heroin addicts coming out of rehab. At that time, I told you that we would be taking this issue to the June 8 Planning Commission meeting seeking a Use Adjustment to convert the fire station to transitional housing.
As I’ve also said earlier, there are a lot of moving pieces between here and there. My support for the project is based in part on the fact that our non-profit partner could operate the transitional housing center without city tax dollars. Our contribution is the use of the building.
Our partner has hit a funding snag in being able to sustain the center and is looking for alternate funding sources at this time. What that means, is that the project is back on hold for now, and we will NOT be taking this to the June 8 Planning Commission meeting.
The project is not dead and we are working with our partners to look at other ways to complete the project. Stay tuned here and I’ll keep everyone up to date.
There is no need, however, to come to the June 8 Planning Commission meeting to discuss this topic. It will not be on the agenda.
Have a great week!
